Madonna and Child portrait

This is a representation of an original painting by Giovanni Battista Salvi da Sassoferrato.

He was an Italian Baroque painter born in 1609. He was very connected to Raphael’s style and other artists from the Baroque and Renaissance era.
Sassoferrato (central Italy) was the town of his birth and the name by which is widely known like so many other painters.
He started to learn with his father, the painter Tarquion Salvi, and moved to Rome where he lived and worked all of his life.
Most of his work was the reproduction of other masters work for private patrons.
There are few records of his own work. Mainly drawings.
His paintings subjects are very soft and peaceful. They don’t have that implicit pain which usually figures in christian art.
This project took me between 30 and 40 hour work.
It was done with the Optima 1 and several tips.
Size A4 (21 x 29,7 cm).
Birch Plywood 5 mm.
